Workshop at Design Academy Eindhoven, to 1st Year Master Students Social Design, 3-5 Janaury 2018. The next workshop will take place in the Symposium-Beyond Change: Questioning the role of design in times of global transformations, Basel, Switzerland,  8-10 March 2018.

The workshop was developed together with Giuditta Vendrame and was made with her and with Gabriel Fontana.  Due to Increasing nationalism and stigmatization of status and communities Polarization the citizenship one owns, becomes a key element in one’s identity. Current sport structures, such as, the Olympic games and the world cup presents a unifying moment alongside a nationalistic one. This tension brings with it moments of tensed political rivalry with peaceful gestures. In this workshop we looked at the sport world as a playground to structure a “reality”. During the workshop we explored the relationship between sport and nationalism addressing movement and performance as a base to question current social systems and powers structures, while speculating and rehearsing possible alternatives.

Workshop questions-What role does nationalism play in sport, What role does sport play in geopolitics? How can we tweak rules of a specific sport in order to speculate and offer alternatives to current social phenomena of polarization?

Aims of the workshop-Deconstruct existing narratives to build alternative realities, rethink our current social and power structures through speculation and fiction, use film as a presentation medium to translate and communicate concept and teamwork.
